I did a ton of research when looking for a video recorder like this. I was tired of using phones to record video and getting inconstant results. Out of the box I was very pleased. It was big enough to hold on to but no so big my arm would get tired holding it. The interface and screen is nice but has a issues (below).
Pros:
The "Pistol" grip made it easy to hold.
Records great video in varied conditions with little effort.
The "iA" function is one of the best things about the camera. Makes taking videos in any condition a breeze.
Shock resistance just plain works. Our camera was dropped onto concrete from a height of about 3 feet and it still works. We did have to shut it down because the focus was stuck. But beyond that.. worked just fine.
Cons:
The menu system is just terrible and hard to navigate.
The controls are a bit strange and not very intuitive.
Hitting record/picture button when in the menus does nothing. It would be nice if it would exit the menus and start recoding without me having to exit manually.
Using the digital zoom is odd. It should just be part of the zoom and to it automatically. I shouldn't have to hit another button to change zoom modes.
Eats batteries quickly even in the standby mode.
There is no way to hide the overlay on the display.
One issue I ran into is the focus sticks. I had to power down the camera and turn it back on to get it to focus again. This happened even before it was dropped so I know that was not the cause. I found that if have a bright light in frame when you turn it on it takes it a bit to correct to the ambient light in the room.
Overall I am very pleased with it. For the cost, it puts to shame some of the other more expensive devices when it comes to video recording. It is just a shame that this great device has such a horrible menu system. I would have given it 5 stars but the menu system severely hurts the usability of the device.
The actual part that truly matters, recording video, gets 5 stars.

OK THIS THING is really nice, it feels great in the hand and is well made, it is water prof and dust, boy this thing does it all, great and clear pics and video is so clear, its easy to use yep even my wife who is electronicly chanlenged can operate this thing, it fits in a phone holder that is large, fits on the waste with no problem, the instructs are the best, look anything that is Panasonic is the best out there, you wont go wrong, I would like a little more recording time it will do only 40 mints but it is portable , water, dust , sand so froth prof so for its size you gotta give up something for this, its perfect, price is excellent too.

I bought this camera for an upcoming family vacation to replace our cell phones (since they wouldn't have the capacity to store a week's worth of family photos and videos). Since I was essentially looking for a cell phone replacement, I wasn't interested in spending a lot of money for a high-end camcorder. I just wanted something small like my cell phone that could take HD video. Having the camcorder small and easy to operate was also a key feature so that we could quickly capture photo/video of our active and spontaneous kids. This Panasonic HX-WA03 meets all of these requirements and exceeded our expectations. It takes very good HD video (720p and 1080p) and still images up to 16MB. I really like how quickly I am able to pull this camera out of my pocket and begin taking video, just like my cell phone. I'll never miss a minute with this thing. After 2 weeks of experimenting with it, here's my review of pros and cons:
Pros
- Small, light weight, portable, easily fits in pockets (mine anyways)
- Easy features to allow for quick recording
- The IA feature is excellent
- Excellent HD video quality
- Pistol grip is excellent
- Great value. Everything I was looking for for under $200!
Cons
- Battery doesn't last as long. Maybe 45 minutes on a full charge. Backup battery recommended!
- Shaky still images/videos under certain settings. Need to have the highest active setting enabled and work on keeping your hand/wrist still. It takes some practice but I've got it figured out.
- Need the supplied HD Writer software. Playback on the PC can be troubling without first importing the files through the supplied Panasonic HD Writer software.
The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I've had a little difficulty getting the files to correctly play on my PC without having to import them using the supplied HD Writer software. I don't like being tied down to a single software. Other than that, I really really enjoy this product. It was a great purchase and I would recommend this to anyone. *NOTE* I did NOT do an underwater review so I cannot comment on how well it performs under water. Good luck!
